Notre premier éléphant blanc !/ Our first white elephant !
C'est décidemment la semaine des premières, puisqu'après notre premier tremblement de terre (merci aux messages de soutien, tout va bien), nous avons vécu hier notre premier éléphant blanc. C'est un genre de traditions aux US, qui consiste en une espèce de petite loterie de cadeaux entre amis. Normalement, chacun amène un petit cadeau à quelques dollars. L'adaptation Berkeleyienne, c'est d'amener un truc vraiment naze, dont on ne veut plus, ce qui ajoute pas mal de piquant. Petite règle supplémentaire: quand on a pioché, on peut soit garder le cadeau, soit l'échanger avec un autre déja tiré qu'on préfère, un même cadeau ne pouvant avoir plus de trois propriétaires... Well, it looks that this week is the one for first time experiences, since after the other day earthquake (thanks for the backup messages, everything's under control), we experienced yeasterday our first white elephant. It's a kind of tradition here in the US, consisting of a small gift lotery betweeen friends. Usually, everyone brings a gift worth just a few bucks. The berkeley way to do it is to bring something really cheesy or not used anymore, which makes it more interesting. Additional rule: once you've picked a gift, you can either keep it or exchange it with a previously picked one you prefer, while a single gift cannot get more than three owners in total... It was lots of fun...

Vouais, mais tu sais comme les francais peuvent etre mesquins parfois "ouais, mais regarde celle-la, son cadeau il est vraiment mieux... Cette autre conne la bas..."
On s'amuse parfois si simplement ici... Juste le plaisir d'etre ensemble....
